Pakistan, June 30 -- KARACHI - A disaster was narrowly avoided in Karachi's Kharadar area after a multi-storey residential building partially collapsed, but all 16 residents trapped inside were rescued safely, authorities confirmed on Monday.
The incident occurred when the roof of the fifth floor suddenly caved in, causing the floors beneath to collapse one after another. The rescue teams responded promptly, using a snorkel to safely evacuate all trapped individuals during a carefully coordinated operation.
According to police and rescue officials, heavy rainfall had weakened the old building's rooftop, which likely triggered the collapse. Residents also blamed the structure's rooftop water tank for worsening the damage.
