Pakistan, June 17 -- ISLAMABAD - At least 39 federal departments in Pakistan have overspent their allocated budgets for the current fiscal year, with the energy and defense sectors emerging as the top contributors to the excess. Meanwhile, dozens of other departments failed to utilize their full funds.

According to official budget documents, the energy sector overspent by Rs129.5 billion, while the defense sector exceeded its allocation by Rs61 billion. Notably, the Defence Services division alone spent Rs59.5 billion more than its approved budget, and the Defense Division overshot by Rs1.8 billion.
