Dar es Salaam, March 21 -- ZIMBABWE: TANZANIA has reiterated its commitment to supporting both regional and international efforts to restore lasting peace in the war-torn eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

As the current chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence and Security, Tanzania has pledged to continue playing a pivotal role in ensuring stability in eastern DRC.

The assurance was given by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thatib Kombo, during the Joint Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) and the SADC held earlier this week in Harare, Zimbabwe.
