DAR ES SALAAM, July 30 -- BREASTFEEDING rates in Tanzania continue to improve, with the percentage of children exclusively breastfed increasing from 58 percent in 2018 to 64percent in 2022.

Additionally, the number of newborns breastfed within the first hour of birth rose from 58percent  in 2018 to 70 percent in 2022—a practice considered vital for the childs health and development.

These statistics were released today, July 30, 2025,  in Dar es Salaam by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Seif Shekalaghe, during the launch of World Breastfeeding Week.

 At the event, a new National Guideline for the Prevention and Treatment of Wasting and Nutritional Oedema was also unveiled.
