DODOMA, June 25 -- IN a decisive move to safeguard the health of residents and the environment in Mtwara Region, the government is constructing a dedicated port outside the Mtwara-Mikindani Municipality for the handling of coal and other environmentally hazardous cargo.

The new facility, located in the Kisiwa Mgao area, aims to redirect coal-laden trucks away from populated areas, significantly reducing the spread of coal dust, a growing public health and environmental concern for communities near the existing port.

Deputy Minister in the Vice Presidents Office (Union and Environment), Mr. Khamis Hamza Khamis, revealed it in Parliament today while responding to a question from Special Seats MP, Tunza Malapo.
