DODOMA, June 28 -- PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has stated that the introduction of modern train services via the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) has brought significant economic benefits since operations began in August 2024.

Speaking in Parliament today in Dodoma during the official closure of the 12th Parliament, President Samia revealed that a total of 2,548,280 passengers have used the SGR service so far, generating 60.88bn/- in revenue.

She noted that the modern railway has greatly eased transportation for Tanzanian citizens, particularly residents of Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, and Dodoma, with travel times between these cities significantly reduced.
