TANGA, Dec. 5 -- The Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA), in collaboration with the Tanga Regional Administration and Mkinga District Council, has begun implementing a compensation exercise for residents of Makota Village, Mwakijembe Ward in Mkinga District. The compensation aims to relocate residents to allow the Umba River buffer zone to be officially incorporated into Mkomazi National Park.
Speaking during the event, Tanga Regional Commissioner, Dr Batilda Buriani said the initiative is significant as it will open new opportunities for the region by creating an additional gateway for receiving tourists and investors through Mkinga District.
