DODOMA, June 13 -- THE government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP) by enforcing stringent environmental regulations, including the implementation of a law that prohibits human activities— such as farming—within 60 metres of water sources feeding the dam.
Deputy Minister in the Vice-Presidents Office (Union and Environment), Mr Khamis Hamza Khamis, revealed this in the National Assembly yesterday while responding to a basic question from Donge MP, Mr Soud Mohamed Jumah (CCM), who asked about the governments strategy for ensuring environmental sustainability around the JNHPP.
