Dar es Salaam, Feb. 27 -- ZANZIBAR: THE government has confirmed that plans are underway to strengthen the police force by providing officers with training and equipment to ensure efficient operations during the upcoming general elections.

This was revealed by the Minister of Infrastructure, Communication and Transport, Dr Khalid Salum Mohamed, while responding to a question in the House of Representatives from Prof Omar Fakih Hamad (Pandani Constituency).

Prof Fakih inquired about the welfare of retired police officers and the general strengthening of the force.

He noted that there have been numerous complaints regarding the pension calculation formula for retired Zanzibar police officers, which differs from that of other retirees.
