Dar es Salaam, April 15 -- SINGAPORE: SINGAPORE will hold general elections on May 3, authorities in the city-state have said, paving the way for the first electoral test of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong since he entered office last year.

Elections Department Singapore announced the date of the vote on Tuesday, shortly after the prime ministers office said President Tharman Shanmugaratnam had dissolved parliament on Wongs advice.

The election comes at a delicate moment for Singapore, whose export-reliant economy is facing headwinds from United States President Donald Trumps trade war.
