Sri Lanka has experienced a significant drop in Grade One admissions, with enrollments decreasing from 421,000 in 2015 to just 298,959 in the 2023/24 academic year.
Highlighting this alarming decline, MP Ravi Karunanayake questioned the government's approach to addressing the issue. In response, Education Deputy Minister Dr.Madura Seneviratne, attributed the trend mainly to demographic shifts and a declining birth rate.
