Sri Lanka, Sept. 1 -- The special commodity tax imposed on imported potatoes and Bombay onions has been increased with the aim of protecting the local farmer.

Accordingly, the government has revised the special commodity tax imposed on imported potatoes and Bombay onions with effect from 26th August 2025.

Under this, the tax imposed on 1 kg of imported potatoes was increased from Rs. 60 to Rs. 80, by Rs. 20, and the tax imposed on 1 kg of imported Bombay onions was increased from Rs. 10 to Rs. 50, by Rs. 40.
