MTWARA, May 28 -- The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in Mtwara Region has successfully recovered over 79 million owed to cashew farmers from various Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Societies (AMCOS) in the region for the 2024/2025 farming season.
Speaking in Mtwara on May 27, 2025, the PCCB Regional Chief, Elisante Mashauri, said the recovered funds were paid to the farmers between January and March 2025, following investigations prompted by public complaints.
Mashauri attributed the recovery to increased public awareness efforts on corruption prevention, which have empowered citizens to report incidents of corruption and misappropriation of farmers funds within their cooperative societies.
