ZANZIBAR, June 30 -- ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi, has launched a new National Committee to oversee and improve madrassa (Quran Schools) education across the islands.

The committee was inaugurated this week, during a special Islamic New Year celebration (1447 Hijri) hosted at the Office of the Chief Mufti of Zanzibar, in Mazizini area, Urban West Region.

Speaking at the event, President Mwinyi mentioned longstanding challenges facing madrassa institutions, including poor learning conditions and the difficult working environment for madrassa teachers.
