Dar es Salaam, March 28 -- MYNAMAR: A MAJOR earthquake was felt by residents in the Thai capital, Bangkok, on Friday, with a skyscraper under construction collapsing and trapping at least 43 workers.

Germanys GFZ center for geosciences said the epicenter of the earthquake was in neighboring Mynamar, citing preliminary reports. It was recorded at a shallow 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake had a 7.7 magnitude, with a 6.4 magnitude aftershock following closely behind.

Deaths were reported in both Thailand and Myanmar, but precise tolls remained unclear.
