DAR ES SALAAM, June 19 -- PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has assured the African Unions Pre-election Assessment Mission (PAM) of Tanzanias full readiness to conduct free, fair and peaceful general elections this October, upholding a tradition the country has maintained in all previous polls.

The Prime Minister issued an assurance yesterday during a meeting with a 17-member PAM delegation, led by former Deputy President of South Africa, Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, at his sub-office in Magogoni, Dar es Salaam.

The AU mission is in the country to assess the state of election preparedness, including the political environment, in line with the principles outlined in the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance.
