Dar es Salaam, March 4 -- DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA will forever celebrate the life of Mohamed Iqbar, the man who coined the name “Tanzania” when it was officially announced as the product of the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964.

Mohammed Iqbal, a scholar and political analyst, was among the Tanzanians who played a crucial role in the discussions surrounding the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar. During these deliberations, he proposed the name “Tanzania,” which was derived from a combination of “Tanganyika” and “Zanzibar.” His proposal was eventually accepted by the leaders of that time, including Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.
