Dar es Salaam, April 26 -- DAR ES SALAAM: ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi has urged Tanzanians to safeguard and uphold peace and unity as essential pillars of the Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar.

He said that as the country marks 61 years of the Union, Tanzanians should take pride in its achievements, including the prevailing peace and unity among the citizens.

“These are important values that we all have a responsibility to protect and preserve,” Dr Mwinyi said yesterday during a ceremony to lay a foundation for the construction of Kibada – Mwasonga road in Kigamboni District, Dar es Salaam as part of the celebrations to mark the 61st anniversary of the Union.
