DODOMA, Aug. 18 -- THE government has unveiled plans to increase production of quality seeds in the country in a bid to reduce heavy reliance on imports and ensure farmers access improved seeds ahead of the farming season.

Speaking in Dodoma over the weekend, Acting Director of the Agricultural Seed Agency (ASA), Mr Leonard Mavika, said the government has drawn up strategies to ensure adequate production and timely distribution of seeds to farmers.

He noted that the aim is to guarantee farmers have access to affordable and quality seeds before the farming season kicks off.
