DAR ES SALAAM, Dec. 12 -- IF all goes as planned all the 5,553 prisoners in correctional facilities countrywide who earned presidential clemency last Monday will walk to freedom before the end of this week, according to prison authorities.

The release of prisoners kicked-off on Tuesday, just a day after President John Magufuli pardoned 5,533 inmates as he led Tanzanians to mark the 58th Independence Anniversary at the CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza.
