DODOMA, June 15 -- THE governments intention to lower the service levy from the current ceiling of 0.3 per cent of gross revenue to a fixed rate of 0.25 per cent and to slash the rate charged to hotels from 10 per cent to 2 per cent, has been described as a significant and commendable step toward improving the business environment in the country.

Tabling the governments 56.49tri/- spending plan for the 2025/26 financial year, Finance Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba proposed the amendment of the Local Government Finance Act purposely to lower cost of doing business.

The intention is also deemed to promote investment and standardise rates across local authorities, following proposed amendments to the Local Government Finance Act.
