COAST REGION, July 2 -- A TOTAL of 16,000 tonnes of sesame worth 44.3bn/- have been collected and sold through three auctions in the Coast Region during the ongoing 2025 marketing season, it has been learnt.

Coast Region Cooperative Union (CORECU) General Manager Hamisi Mantawela, told the Daily News over the phone on Monday that the region has set a target to sell a total of 20,000 tonnes of sesame in this marketing season—an increase of 7,000 tonnes from last years harvest.

“In last years marketing season, we managed to collect and sell a total of 13,000 tonnes of sesame and earned 45.6bn/- ,” he said, adding that the marketing was conducted through six auctions.
