ZANZIBAR, Nov. 6 -- The Zanzibar House of Representatives today elected Zuberi Ali Maulid of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) as Speaker of the House.
Mr Zuberi secured 53 votes, representing 94 percent of the total votes cast, during the first meeting of the House held in Chukwani, Unguja. The session marked the official opening of the Houses activities.

Other candidates included Naima Salum Hamad (UDP), Suleiman Ali Khamis (ADC), who both received no votes, and Chausiku Khatib Muhammed (NLD), who garnered three votes.
Following his victory, Speaker Maulid was sworn in and immediately assumed his duties.
