Dar es Salaam, Nov. 7 -- THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party has emerged dominant in the Northern Zone, producing the highest number of parliamentary winners in the General Elections held last week.

In Arusha Urban Constituency, CCM candidate Mr Paul Makonda was declared the winner after garnering 370,588 votes, equivalent to 96.17 per cent of the total 385,341 votes cast.

The Returning Officer for Arusha Urban, Mr Shaban Manyama, said a total of 16 candidates contested the parliamentary seat.

He noted that John Lema of CHAUMA party came second with 2,998 votes (0.78 per cent), followed by veteran journalist Said Njuki of ACT–Wazalendo, who garnered 2,956 votes (0.77 per cent).
