Dar es Salaam, March 29 -- DAR ES SALAAM: THE value of transactions processed through Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) dropped by 0.77 per cent to 13.79tri/- last year from 13.87tri/- in 2023, due to the increasing adoption of alternative digital payment systems.
According to the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) National Payment Systems 2024 annual report, the volume of transactions processed through ATMs also fell by 5.63 per cent to 70.80 million in the period under review down from 75.01 million in 2023.
During the year under review, the number of ATMs increased by 9.74 per cent reaching 2,174, up from 1,981 in 2023. Geographically, the BoT report says 33.07 per cent of ATMs were located in Dar es Salaam, followed by Arusha (7.13 per cent), Mw...
