Sri Lanka, April 3 -- The World Bank has announced a financial commitment of US$ 500 million over an eight-year period (2026-2034) to support the integrated economic development of Sri Lanka's Northern and Eastern Provinces. This initiative, planned in three phases, aims to foster sustainable economic growth and infrastructural improvements in these regions.

A delegation from the World Bank met Northern Province Governor N. Vedanayagan at the Northern Province Governor's Secretariat to discuss development strategies on Tuesday (1).

The discussions primarily focused on addressing employment challenges following the closure of industries in the region and leveraging agriculture and fisheries for economic transformation.
