Sri Lanka, May 26 -- The government implemented another phase of its housing project to build 40,000 new units for shanty dwellers in Colombo recently.

This housing complex with 300 units will be constructed in Obeysekarapura, Rajagiriya on the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Funded by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), these 300 units of 550 square feet each will be built at a cost of Rs. 1,723.24 million.

Constructions are expected to be finished within two-and-a-half-years by a private construction firm under the direct supervision of the Urban Development Authority (UDA).
