Sri Lanka, July 27 -- Women strengthen Sri Lankan economy and uplifting their livelihoods will fortify their families and the country, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) founder Basil Rajapaksa said.

He was speaking at a conference at the Negombo Golden Star Beach Hotel last Saturday.

Rajapaksa said that strengthening domestic economy lies primarily with women and the former government headed by Mahinda Rajapaksa has took steps to uplift the women by setting up the 'Divi Naguma' programme through the Economic Development Ministry. The main objective of the upcoming SLPP Government is to set up such programmes to uplift poor families," he said.
