Sri Lanka, Feb. 5 -- A 42-year-old woman has been arrested at the Katunayake BIA while attempting to smuggle a stock of foreign-made cigarettes worth Rs. 7.5 million without paying Customs duties. The arrest was carried out by the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) officers on Monday (3).

The suspect, a financial manager at a private business establishment, is a resident of Hokandara. Upon inspection, authorities discovered 47,000 cigarettes concealed inside 235 cartons in her luggage.

She has since been released on Police bail and is scheduled to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate's Court today (5), along with the confiscated stock of cigarettes.
