Sri Lanka, Nov. 4 -- The government has decided to suspend the implementation of new wind power projects planned for Mannar Island until the consent of local residents is obtained, following directives issued by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

According to the renewable energy resource project plan for Mannar Island, which has been identified as an area with high wind power potential, three major wind power projects were scheduled for development. Among them, the Thambapavani Wind Power Plant began operations in 2021, while the 20-megawatt Windscape Mannar (Pvt) Ltd project and the 50-megawatt Hayleys Fentons project were scheduled to commence operations in December 2025 and December 2026, respectively.
