Srilanka, June 11 -- Due to heavy rainfall that began last night (10) in the Norton Bridge-Wimalasurendra catchment areas, the Wimalasurendra Reservoir began releasing excess water through its spill gates from this morning (11).
According to the Nuwara Eliya Disaster Management Unit, the water level of the Kelani River has risen slightly as a result of the spill.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and advising residents downstream to remain vigilant as weather conditions continue to be unstable.
