Sri Lanka, July 9 -- The Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute will be turned into a full-fledged Ayurveda and Indigenous Medicine University in accordance with a Cabinet decision.

A Cabinet Memorandum in this regard has been submitted by Higher Education, Technology, Innovation and Media Minister Dr.Bandula Gunawardena, which the Cabinet has endorsed.

The Minister had pointed out that this would be a boost for local Ayurvedic medical teaching and help raise the profile of Ayurveda education in the region. Since Ayurveda tourism is also on the rise, Sri Lanka will be well-positioned to attract more wellness tourists who would like to seek advice from university-level qualified Ayurvedic medical practitioners, he said.
