Srilanka, April 15 -- On the auspicious occasion of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, inmates at Welikada Prison prepared Sri Lanka's largest milk rice dish yesterday (14).

With the help of 50 inmates working in the prison kitchen, the massive New Year meal was made using 400 kilograms of raw rice and 705 coconuts. To accompany it, a flavorful lunu miris was prepared using 60 kg of onions, 12 kg of dried chilies, 7 kg of green chilies, and 10 kg each of tomatoes and lime, along with 30 kg of liquid salt.

This festive meal was shared among nearly 3,300 male and female inmates at Welikada, with each receiving a 225 gram portion of milk rice.
