Srilanka, May 2 -- The Professional Web Journalists Association has strongly opposed a new directive from the Government Information Department requiring government-issued media accreditation for journalists to attend post-Cabinet media briefings.

In an official statement, the association described the requirement as a serious infringement on media freedom and the public's right to information. It cautioned that such policies threaten democratic principles and could significantly hinder the work of independent journalists.

The association urged the government to reverse the decision immediately and ensure equal access to post-Cabinet briefings for all journalists and media platforms, without restriction or discrimination.
