Sri Lanka, March 22 -- Sri Lanka has not printed any new currency notes or coins since the Presidential Election in 2024, Finance and Economic Stabilization Deputy Minister Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma said.

Responding to an oral question raised by MP Dayasiri Jayasekara in Parliament yesterday (21), Dr. Suriyapperuma confirmed that the Central Bank (CB) has not printed any new banknotes or coins during this period.

He further explained that the current Government is managing public funds efficiently and responsibly to repay debts, reducing the necessity to borrow from the market. As a result, the country's banking interest rates have also decreased.
