Srilanka, April 7 -- Astronomer Anura C. Perera says that residents of Colombo and its suburbs will briefly experience a rare celestial event today (April 7), as their shadows will disappear for a moment at exactly 12:12 PM. This phenomenon, known as Zero Shadow Day, occurs when the sun is directly overhead, causing vertical objects to cast no shadow.

This event happens twice a year in Sri Lanka due to the sun's apparent movement northward and southward across the equator. A special observation camp will be held at the Colombo Municipal Council premises from 11:30 AM today. Those unable to attend can witness the event by placing a stick, rod, or bottle upright in an open area with a clear sky view.
