Srilanka, Feb. 18 -- The water level of the Walawe River in the Balangoda area has dropped rapidly due to the lack of rainfall in its catchment areas for the past two weeks.

The ongoing dry weather has caused springs and streams in the Balangoda Waleboda catchment area to dry up, further reducing the river's water supply.

Local residents note that despite previous dry spells, the river has never reached such low levels within a short period.
