Sri Lanka, Jan. 5 -- Veteran journalist and lyricist Chandrasena Thalangama passed away last night (4) at the age of 71.

Born in Thalangama in 1944, he began his career as a journalist in 1980, initially writing under the name Thalangama Chandrasena.

Later, he gained recognition in the music world as Chandrasena Thalangama.

Although he had long written lyrics inspired by his life experiences, they remained hidden among his journalistic work until music star Charitha Atalage brought them to life.

His first song, Sansaraye Ma, was released in 2017, marking the start of a remarkable late-career success.

Since then, his lyrics have resonated deeply with Sri Lankan youth.
