Sri Lanka, Jan. 14 -- The Gampaha High Court Trial-at-Bar has announced that the delivery of the verdict in the murder case of former MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala has been postponed to 11 February 2026.
Athukorala, the Polonnaruwa District parliamentarian, and his security officer, a police constable, were killed during violent incidents in the Nittambuwa area on 9 May 2022. That evening, reports of a shooting prompted authorities to rush six injured individuals to Wathupitiwala Base Hospital, three of whom had sustained gunshot wounds. One 27-year-old later died from critical injuries.
