Sri Lanka, Feb. 9 -- The Trincomalee Magistrate's Court today (9) ordered that ten individuals, including four Buddhist monks, remain in remand custody until February 11.

The group includes Venerable Balangoda Kassapa Thero, Venerable Trincomalee Kalyanawansa Tissa Thero (Chief Incumbent of the Sri Sambuddha Jayanthi Bodhiraja Viharaya), Venerable Trincomalee Sukhithawansa Tissa Thero, and Venerable Nanda Thero.

The charges stem from an incident in November 2025 involving the alleged installation of a Buddha statue and unauthorized construction within a protected coastal zone on Fort Road, Trincomalee.

Authorities from the Coast Conservation Department claim the structures violated the Coast Conservation Act.
