Sri Lanka, Nov. 3 -- The Central Bank says that vehicles worth US$ 1,204 million were imported into the country in the first nine months this year.

The vehicles imported are both for personal transport and commercial purposes. During the month of September 2025, US$ 286 million was spent on vehicle imports. The merchandise account deficit widened in September 2025, mainly due to increased import expenditure exceeding US$ 2 billion, driven by increased vehicle imports.
