Sri Lanka, Nov. 25 -- Three individuals, including the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Valachchenai Pradeshiya Sabha, surrendered before the Valachchenai Magistrate's Court today (25) in connection with the removal of archaeological direction signs that sparked public controversy.
Four police teams had earlier been deployed to arrest the suspects, including Chairman S. Sudhakaran, over the incident involving signs installed by the Department of Archaeology to guide tourists to archaeological sites maintained by the Kiran Archaeological Office in Valachchenai, Batticaloa.
The Pradeshiya Sabha had removed the signs, claiming they were installed without its approval.
