Sri Lanka, Nov. 25 -- Police have launched an intensified search for the Chairman of the Valachchenai Pradeshiya Sabha, who reportedly fled following the removal of archaeological signboards in the Batticaloa District-an act that sparked public outrage after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The Police Media Spokesperson confirmed that one suspect linked to the incident was arrested in the Kiran area, and several of the removed signboards have been recovered by Valachchenai Police.

Authorities believe the Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman was directly involved, prompting the deployment of four separate police teams to locate and apprehend him.
