Srilanka, March 20 -- Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasised the urgent need to increase women's participation in the economic sector, both globally and in Sri Lanka.
She made these remarks on March 18 at the launch of the Women's Entrepreneurial Financial Fund, organised by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, held at the Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo.
Further addressing the event, the Prime Minister said:
"There are stark gender disparities in labour force participation, with only 47% of women globally and 32% in Sri Lanka being economically active, compared to 72% and 71% of men, respectively.
