Sri Lanka, Aug. 8 -- A 23-year-old man was killed in a shooting incident that occurred last night near the Sahaspura housing complex in Borella.

The victim has been identified as a resident of Akurupitiya Road, Kelaniya. Four other young men, aged 21 to 23 and all residents of Colombo, sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at hospital.

According to police, the shooting took place while the group was preparing for a scheduled sports event near the housing complex.

Gunmen, reportedly arriving on a motorcycle, opened fire using a T-56 assault rifle. At least 25 bullet casings were recovered from the scene.

Police investigations into the incident are currently ongoing.
