Sri Lanka, Sept. 17 -- The United National Party (UNP) working committee, chaired by party leader and former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, decided on 16 September 2025 to lift all bans and disciplinary actions previously imposed on members who joined the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).

A committee led by former Attorney General Tilak Marapana was appointed to study the legal implications, while UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardena said the move removes obstacles for former members to reunite with the party.

The working committee also expressed gratitude to all parties supporting collective political efforts since the arrest of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
