Srilanka, March 25 -- The UK has sanctioned figures responsible for serious human rights violations and abuses during the civil war in Sri Lanka, a news release from the UK Government said yesterday.
* The UK sanctions former Sri Lankan commanders and an ex-LTTE commander responsible for serious human rights violations and abuses during the civil war;
* Sanctions aim to seek accountability for serious human rights violations and abuses, committed during the civil war, and to prevent a culture of impunity; and
* The UK is committed to working with new Sri Lankan Government on human rights, welcoming their commitments to national unity.
