Srilanka, March 4 -- Two women were arrested this morning (04) by officers from the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau for attempting to smuggle foreign-made cigarettes worth three million rupees into the country at Katunayake Airport.

One suspect is a 32-year-old woman from Polonnaruwa, and the other is a 23-year-old woman from Narammala.

Initial investigations revealed that the women had traveled to Dubai on tourist visas to bring the 100 cartons (containing 20,000 "Platinum" cigarettes) into Sri Lanka. They had arrived at Katunayake Airport early this morning on Fly Dubai flight FZ-569.

The women have been released on police bail and are scheduled to appear before the Negombo Magistrate's Court tomorrow
