Srilanka, Nov. 8 -- The Embassy of France in Colombo has announced plans for two French cable ships to be built in Sri Lanka for the benefit of global connectivity.
Colombo Dockyard PLC has been selected by French company Orange Marine to construct the vessels, aimed at renewing the fleet capacity of the global leader in submarine cable installation and maintenance.
In 2023, Colombo Dockyard built the cable ship Sophie Germain, which is currently in operation. This renewed collaboration is expected to enhance the visibility of Sri Lankan engineering in a strategic sector and highlights the potential for stronger maritime partnerships between France and Sri Lanka.
