Srilanka, March 27 -- Twenty Sri Lankan prisoners held at the Central Jail of Kuwait were brought to the Katunayake Airport yesterday afternoon (26) on a special flight from Kuwait to Sri Lanka under the Kuwait-Sri Lanka prisoner exchange agreement.
The Kuwait-Sri Lankan prisoner exchange agreement was signed in 2007 and under that agreement, 32 Sri Lankan prisoners had been brought to the country for the first time in 2024.
The Sri Lankan prisoners brought to the Katunayake Airport this time were a group of people who had been arrested by the security forces of Kuwait on charges of drug use, transport and smuggling and various other charges and had been referred to the judicial process, sentenced and imprisoned.
